Sonja Dahlgren | Abstract Painter
Motivated by colour
Sonja Dahlgren (b 1973) is a contemporary abstract painter who focuses primarily on colour-field and colour-block painting. She is based in Gothenburg (Göteborg), Sweden.
“Sonja’s work is driven by her love of colour, and her fascination with the potential of colour and form to affect emotions and mood. Her practice is grounded in a strong belief in the ability of colour and form to generate meaning in their own right, beyond representation. With her work she investigates how colour and form can come alive through colour relationships, rhythm, restraint and composition. She wants the work to spark an immediate visual experience, a moment where the viewer encounter colour and form, and feel something, before translating them into meaning. She also hopes to spark the viewer’s curiosity, and, ideally, to discover a personal connection with the composition in front of them. ”
